Mediterranean Way to Go
It's been quite some time that I haven't updated this blog. I actually am having lots of things in mind to say and to record for life, but just haven't got time. However, today I'm going to write down something first in case I should let this touching-at-heart go away too soon. After all MBA'08 students were broken into 6 oceans on Monday, today is the first day for us to have an official outing with new teammates. I'm in the Mediterranean Ocean (well, everybody knows that it's not an ocean but just a sea XD) with other 50+ people, and my 7-people core team is called Crane. Ha you're right, all of our core teams are named after birds. Anyways, today we went out for some team-building activities. It was so fun, but frankly speaking, when it comes to games, I didn't think my poor English allowed me to understand everything. So for lots of time there I needed to pay extra attention or even to guess what people were talking. I kept thinking myself as the one that damaged my core team and that made some processes not smooth enough.
When it comes to the end of the day, our facilitator asked my team, that each of us needed to passed a ball stuff to a teammate who we thought he/she did great to day and to also give thanks to him/her. Immediately in my mind I thought of Ted, because he's been incredible the whole day. Then the facilitator added that there might be someone who wouldn't get a ball at all, since we might all give the credits to the same person. I was like, ok, that must be me, no one would ever pick me. But after the facilitator asked us if we had a person in mind, Ted raised his hand right away, saying "I got one already." Then he took the ball and walked toward me. I was so shocked. It ended up that I was the first one to receive such honor! It was so touching when hearing Ted say something like, I give this ball to Roxanne, because she did so well to link the team together. The games were more fun because of her, etc. Wow, I got my first team praise from MIT!!! After I got the ball I returned it to Ted, thanking him for taking the initiative in everything and his great enthusiam. Ha it was fun that we thought each other as the teammate of the day. And I couldn't believe that Lindsey picked me as well, so in the end it was only Ted and me that got the ball twice. It was amazing for me.
I'm sure the coming 2 years will be super tough for me, but I'm also pretty sure that by having great teammates with great teamwork, I cannot be happier staying at MIT Sloan. :)
